Story Overview

From a distance, Lion Rock Spirit appears as a poised, composed lion. Yet a closer look reveals that the entire cityscape of Hong Kong is woven into its physical form.
The lion's head brings together the Observation Wheel, Happy Valley Racecourse, and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. These landmarks capture the energy and rhythm of daily life.

Tracing the mane and back is the Victoria Harbour skyline. The HSBC Main Building, Bank of China Tower, International Finance Centre, The Center, Jardine House, and Lippo Centre stand alongside St. John’s Cathedral. The pairing of modern skyscrapers and historical structures reflects how the old and new coexist.

Within the chest and front limbs lie cultural landmarks like Tai Kwun and the Court of Final Appeal, preserving generations of resilience and cultural dialogue.

Further down, the body and hind limbs feature Kai Tak Sports Park, Ocean Park, Disneyland, the Tian Tan Buddha, and Ngong Ping 360. These destinations for recreation and daily escape hold the memories and laughter of countless families. 

The Tail: Circular Fountain Garden: This meticulously crafted feature brings to life the classic symbolism and true spirit of the brand, "JARDIN DES FONTAINES."

A network of everyday transit flows around the sculpture. Double-decker buses, minibuses, taxis, trams, the Star Ferry, and the Peak Tram move through the design, representing the daily commute that defines life here.

High above this activity, Lion Rock itself watches over the city through every storm. No matter how eras change, the mountain remains a quiet symbol of shared understanding among Hong Kong people.

While the sculpture outlines the physical shape of Hong Kong, its true subject is the people who live and work here every day.

Design Philosophy

Standing tall in a classic posture, the lion leans slightly forward with its hind legs firmly gripping the ground, projecting a calm, gathered strength.

While traditional symbolism associates the lion with courage, dignity, and protection, this sculpture grounds these traits in a distinct local warmth. Here, they represent the quiet determination of ordinary people standing fast to protect their shared ideals.

At the heart of the design lies unity, perseverance, and resilience—the very soul of Hong Kong’s Lion Rock Spirit.

This spirit lives in the quiet warmth of neighbors looking out for one another, in the courage to face hardship head-on, and in an unwavering belief in tomorrow, even during the darkest times. "Never give up" moves us so deeply because it has never been an empty phrase on a wall. It is the lived reality of this city, captured in every quiet struggle and every steady step forward.
